Education is an important part of Jeremy’s artistic practice. They have experience teaching theatre and writing to students of all ages that focus on ensemble building and creating original work.

Workingshop: Playwrighting through Playmaking

Workshop participant Emma Jayne Smith presenting her work.

The root of playwriting is the working of the play— the making of it. Jeremy’s workshop focuses on the creation not of a literary text, but the manifestation of a “play” in a fully realized form.

Participants freewrite (with utensil and paper), brainstorm and discuss components and mechanics of performance-making as a group, before embarking on creating a one- to two-minute play individually or in small groups through a (purposefully ridiculously impossible) prompt set to foster the work of making plays, rather than merely writing the basis for them. All participants will leave the workshop with a multimedia piece of theatre and a new perspective on writing text as the basis for theatrical performance.
